As a first-time parent recovering from a caesarean with absolutely no clue how to ‘mum’, the thought of having someone spend a few hours photographing your attempts inside a messy and chaotic home is daunting to say the least. But they grow up SO fast and we desperately wanted to capture that squishy newborn face in photographs that we could look back on forever and ever. We only had nine days of parenting practice before our session with Sarah (and zero days without a wee/poop/vom incident). The nerves were rife the morning of the photoshoot but from the moment Sarah walked in, the energy in the room changed. She has this warm aura about her that creates such a safe and comfortable space (…and she’s fun and bloody hilarious!!). It honestly felt like Aunty Sarah was just dropping in for baby cuddles and I was totally oblivious to the camera she was discreetly snapping at the cutest moments. Sarah was calm and patient, which helped us to be calm and patient when our nine-day-old bub was (inevitably) unsettled at times throughout the photoshoot. We actually learnt so much from watching Sarah - a seasoned mumma - soothe and settle our bub. Not only did Sarah deliver the most beautiful photographs of our baby Otis, but the experience itself was such a delight. We will look back at our photos and remember the giggles and fun we had the morning they were taken… as well as how teeny tiny he was 😭.
